Physical properties of oilfield valve seals
The following is a table of physical properties of some physical and chemical properties of oilfield valve seals:
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
Temperature range: -20~250°C(-4~+482°F)
Pressure: -0.1~6.4Mpa (full negative pressure to 64kgf/cm²)
Corrosion resistance: It is inert to most chemicals and solvents, and can resist strong acids and alkalis, water and various organic solvents
Weather-resistant: Best-in-class aging life of any plastic
High lubrication: It has the lowest coefficient of friction among solid materials
Disadvantages: Poor elasticity
Polyurethane elastomers
Application fields: metallurgy, petroleum, automobile, mineral processing, water conservancy, textile, printing, medical, sports, grain processing, construction and other industrial sectors
Fluoroelastomer (FKM)
Chemical resistance: Able to maintain stable physical and chemical properties in a variety of chemical media, such as acids, alkalis, solvents, oils, and fuels
High-temperature stability: It has excellent high-temperature resistance
Chromium 13 stainless steel
Application: Widely used on valve stems, seat seals, and discs
Features: It has high wear resistance, scratch resistance, corrosion resistance and erosion resistance
Operating temperature: on oil and steam pipelines, the working temperature reaches 600°C
Nickel alloys
Application: Manufacture of seat rings; The disc is made of chrome 13 stainless steel, which is suitable for gaseous and liquid media without lubricant and relatively low corrosiveness
Working medium limit: The working medium is limited to below 450° for steam and 260° for other media
Austenitic stainless steel
Application: 18-8 chromium-nickel-based steel, widely used in the manufacture of valve trims
Features: It is suitable for extremely corrosive or extremely high temperatures, or extremely corrosive and high-temperature media
Special stainless steel
Examples: Alloy 20, Incoloy825, and Carpenter20cb3 are often used to make valve trims
Monel
Application: To make valve trims, the medium is mostly seawater, salt solution, or steam
The above information provides an overview of the physical and chemical properties of oilfield valve seals, which are critical to selecting the right sealing material and ensuring the safe operation of oilfield equipment.
