Introduction

The cylinder piston seal comprises a filled polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) wear-resistant sealing ring and a rubber O-ring, which can compensate for damage to the wear-resistant sealing ring. It has the effect of double sealing and can withstand unilateral or double loads. Suitable for sealing rings of shafts, rods, rolling bearings, rotating joints, shaft seats, etc. that rotate at high cylinder pressure and low speed.

 

A cylinder Piston Seal in mechanical engineering, is a sliding cylinder with a closed head that reciprocates by or against the pressure of a fluid in a slightly larger cylindrical chamber, as in an engine or pump. A cylinder steam engine is closed by plates at both ends, and the piston rod is rigidly connected to the piston through a gland and stuffing box (gas-tight joint) through one of the end plates.

Cylinder-Piston-Seals

 

The type of cylinder and the application which it is used for are two of the main criteria when selecting the appropriate seals and guides. Applications are referred to as light-duty, medium-duty, or heavy-duty applications. The duty levels are typically characterized by the following criteria:


 Light-duty cylinders are used for stationary equipment in a factory environment and are characterized by system pressures up to 160 bar (2,300 psi) and temperatures up to 70°C (160°F).


 Medium-duty cylinders often are used in agriculture off-highway equipment with system pressures up to 250 bar (3,625 psi) and temperatures up to 90°C (195°F).


 Heavy-duty cylinders are found in off-highway earthmoving, mining, and forestry equipment and are characterized by system pressures of 400 bar (5,800 psi) or greater and with temperatures exceeding 90°C (195°F), and perhaps intermittently to 110°C (230°F).

 

The choice of piston seal is decided by how the cylinder operates. For a cylinder that is exclusively single-acting, capable of sealing dynamic pressure from one side (unidirectional), it is always best to choose the type of seal designed to provide optimum sealing qualities for single-acting functions.
