What is the difference between FVMQ and FKM?

FVMQ and FKM are two different rubber materials with some differences in chemical composition and properties.

1.Chemical composition
FVMQ (fluorosilicone rubber) is a material composed of fluorocarbon polymer and silane cross-linking agent. It has the high chemical resistance of a fluorocarbon polymer (usually a fluorinated hydrocarbon) and the high- temperature stability of a silane cross-linker.
FKM (fluoroelastomer) is a material composed of fluorocarbon polymer and fluorinated hydrocarbon cross-linking agent. It is chemically similar to FVMQ but does not contain a silane cross-linker.

2.Temperature resistance
FVMQ has excellent high-temperature resistance and can typically be used at temperatures up to 200°C (392°F) and can even tolerate higher temperatures for short periods of time.
FKM also has good high-temperature resistance and can typically be used at temperatures up to 200°C (392°F), but relative to FVMQ, FKM is slightly less stable at high temperatures for long periods of time.

3.Physical properties
FVMQ has good low-temperature elasticity and softness, and can still maintain elasticity even at extremely low temperatures.
FKM has weaker low-temperature properties and may become brittle and hard at low temperatures compared to FVMQ.

4.Chemical resistance
FVMQ and FKM have similar characteristics in terms of chemical resistance, and both have good resistance to most chemicals. However, FVMQ may perform better in certain alkaline environments due to its silane cross-linking agent.

FVMQ (fluorosilicone rubber) and FKM (fluoroelastomer) have some differences in application, mainly depending on their characteristics and performance. Here are some examples of their applications

Application of FVMQ

  • High temperature seals: Due to its excellent high temperature resistance, FVMQ is often used to manufacture high temperature seals, such as automotive engine seals, aerospace equipment seals, etc.
  • Medical devices: FVMQ has excellent biocompatibility and chemical stability, so it is used in the field of medical devices to manufacture seals, pipes, gloves, etc.
  • Electronic and electrical appliances: Due to its excellent heat resistance and electrical insulation properties, FVMQ is often used in the field of electronic and electrical appliances, such as wire and cable insulation layers, electronic component seals, etc.
  • Automotive industry: FVMQ can be used for automotive sensor seals, air intake system seals, cooling system seals, etc. because it can withstand high temperatures and the erosion of chemical substances.

Application of FKM

  • Seals: FKM is widely used in manufacturing seals, such as automotive engine seals, pipe seals, pneumatic seals, etc. Its chemical resistance and high temperature resistance make it suitable for use in a variety of harsh industrial environments.
  • Automotive industry: FKM is widely used in automobile manufacturing, such as fuel system seals, brake system seals, sensor seals, etc., because it can withstand the erosion of fuel, lubricants and other chemicals.
  • Chemical industry: FKM is also commonly used in the chemical industry, such as pipeline seals, valve seals, sealing rings, etc., because it can withstand the corrosion of chemicals and high-temperature environments.
  • Aerospace field: Due to its high temperature resistance and chemical stability, FKM is often used in seals, oil storage tank seals, propulsion system seals, etc. in aerospace equipment.
