How to properly install the brake master cylinder seal?

Installing the brake master cylinder seals requires careful operation to ensure that each step is correct to guarantee the reliability and safety of the braking system. Here are the detailed installation steps:

Preparation

Clean parts: Use brake fluid to clean all parts and blow all channels with compressed air to ensure that each part is free of dust and other foreign objects.

Check the parts: check the wear of the master cylinder bore and adjust the clearance. Check that the wall of the cylinder bore is free of rust, slight scratches can be polished, and deep ones need to be replaced. Check whether the reservoir is damaged or aged, whether the filter screen is blocked, and remove sediment. Check whether the vent of the reservoir lid is blocked, whether the buoy can move up and down freely, and brake the function of the level switch.

Install the reservoir seal

Install the seal: Fill the reservoir seal into the groove of the reservoir lid, and then install the filter screen and reservoir lid on the reservoir.

Install the rubber retainer: Install a new rubber retainer on the reservoir.

Install the piston assembly

Align the positioning pin: align the piston groove with the positioning pin of the brake master cylinder, and install the main piston assembly and the secondary piston assembly.

Install the primary piston: install the secondary piston assembly into the brake master cylinder, push the primary piston, align the groove on the primary piston with the positioning pin, and finally install the positioning pin.

Install the reservoir

Installing the reservoir: Place the reservoir into the brake master cylinder.

Installing the circlip: Push the secondary piston inward and install a new circlip.

Install the pusher seal

Seal Grease: Apply the push rod seals with the sealing grease recommended in the master cylinder seal assembly.

Install the seal: Install the seal on the brake booster.

Adjustment of the clearance of the master cylinder pusher

Install the pushrod gauge: Install the pushrod gauge on the brake master cylinder and turn the adjustment nut so that the central axis moves inward until its top touches the end of the secondary piston.

Install the brake master cylinder nut: while keeping the position of the central shaft unchanged, install the push rod adjustment gauge upside down to the brake booster, install the brake master cylinder nut, and tighten it according to the specified torque.

Measurement gap: A vacuum gauge is connected between the engine vacuum tube and the brake booster, and the engine is started and a certain speed is maintained to produce a vacuum of 66kPa. At this time, the gap between the push rod adjustment gauge body and the adjustment nut is measured by using the feeler gauge, and the specified value of this gap is 0~0.4mm.

Final checks

Check the brake fluid line: Be careful not to damage the brake fluid line during installation.

Exhaust air: After installation, drain the air from the braking system to ensure that there is no air in the system.

Summary

Proper installation of the brake master cylinder seals requires careful cleaning and inspection of all parts to ensure that each step is done in the correct order. Using the recommended grease and tools, make sure the seals are in place and the pushrod clearance is adjusted correctly. These steps will ensure the reliability and safety of the braking system.
