What are the common types of failures for scrubber flange seals?

The common types of faults in the flange seals of the scrubber mainly include:

1

Media leakage: This is one of the most common faults and can occur in tower connection flanges, pipe-to-equipment connection flanges, and manholes. Leaks can be caused by flange installation that does not meet technical requirements, flange deformation due to excessive force, seal failure, or excessive operating pressure.

2

Leakage of mechanical seals: Damage to mechanical seals will lead to a decrease in desulfurization efficiency, which may lead to environmental protection failure in severe cases. Leaks can be caused by leakage, cavitation, or prolonged pressure holding leading to seal failure; The actual output flow of the pump is small, and the vaporization of the medium leads to seal failure; Failure to empty or leakage of the inlet door leads to slurry in the pump body, and the sealing surface is torn when restarting; The corrosive, polymeric and gelatinous substances in the medium increase; Rapid changes in ambient temperature; Frequent changes or adjustments in working conditions, especially the pipeline configuration adjustment door system; The sealing water is cut off and the machine seal is damaged.

3

Pipeline blockage: Pipeline blockages often occur in desulfurization systems, which may be due to slurry siltation, blockage of debris in the pipeline, detachment of anti-corrosion lining, or blockage of the filter screen on the pipeline. Once the pipeline is blocked, it may cause the slurry pump to run with the pump holding its breath, the slurry in the pump body to vaporize, and the temperature to rise, resulting in damage to the mechanical seal.

4

Mismatch of pipeline design: The inlet pipeline design of the pump is unreasonable, if the inlet pipeline is too thin, it may lead to insufficient suction volume of the pump, which is prone to cavitation, resulting in leakage of the machine seal.

5

Shell thinning and local deformation: Due to the corrosion of the medium and the erosion of the material, the wall thickness of the shell of the tower equipment may be reduced, resulting in the thinning of the shell. Excessive deformation may occur in the local area due to peak stress, temperature difference stress, welding residual stress, etc.

6

Working Surface Scaling: In some cases, surface scaling of tower equipment may affect its proper operation.

These failure types cover the main problems that can arise with the flange seals of the scrubber and need to be prevented and resolved through regular inspection, maintenance, and proper design.
