What are Metric Hydraulic Seals

Metric Hydraulic Seals are a type of seal used in hydraulic systems. They are designed for use with metric-sized hydraulic equipment and components. Usually made of elastic material such as rubber or polyurethane. Its main function is to prevent the leakage of liquid or gas during the transmission of fluid power in hydraulic systems. These seals are installed at the connection points of hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic pumps, hydraulic valves, and other hydraulic components to ensure the normal operation of the hydraulic system.

Compatibility with O-rings

Metric hydraulic seals and O-rings are commonly used seal types with a wide range of applications in hydraulic systems.

1. Dimensions: Hydraulic seals and O-rings are usually dimensionally compatible because they can both be manufactured to metric or imperial sizes. This means they can be used interchangeably on the same hydraulic equipment or components.

2. Application scope: Hydraulic seals and O-rings are suitable for static and dynamic sealing applications in hydraulic systems. They can be used to prevent liquid or gas leaks and keep systems functioning properly.

3. Pressure and temperature: Hydraulic seals and O-rings can usually adapt to a certain working pressure and temperature range. Specific compatibility depends on selected materials and design.

Hydraulic-seals

Durable seals, minimal cylinder maintenance

Linde Polymer is a leading manufacturer of hydraulic cylinder seals. Our seals and other cylinder repair parts last far longer than regular seals and are highly valued by many well-known Fortune 500 companies and OEMs. We make hydraulic cylinder repairs easy because our seals come in many different materials, sizes, and dimensions, ranging from 4mm to 1000mm. Whether you are looking for standard sizes or require a complete set of custom hydraulic seals, we can provide any shaft seal type with our cutting-edge machining services. Of course, not every machine includes a rod and piston, so make sure you understand the difference between the two and which seal type you need.

Hydraulic Seals Replacement Procedure – Your Handy Reference

Fortunately for our customers, replacement and repairs are rarely needed when using our seals. Linde Polymer's employees are trained to fully understand the critical nature of component life.

However, in some cases, it is indeed necessary to replace a hydraulic seal. Improper installation, failure to consider environmental factors when selecting seals, or simple wear and tear may eventually require seal replacement. A broken or failed seal can cause damage to the surrounding area, so this issue should be addressed as soon as it is discovered.

The correct method of replacement depends on the type of cylinder. Wire rings and threaded head cylinders both require different replacement procedures:

Wire Ring Cylinder

  • Begin by retracting the rod assembly, removing the outer wire ring, and cleaning away any accumulated dirt and debris.
  • Use a mallet and punch to push the head into the cylinder tube to expose the inner tube groove.
  • Straighten the plastic removal ring and insert it into the groove.
  • Extend the rod, pull the head out of the tube, and remove the debonding ring; from here, you can also remove the lock nut, piston, and head.
  • If necessary, inspect seals and replace them with new parts.

Set Screw Threaded Head Cylinder

  • First, loosen the set screws and close the end cap.
  • Remove the piston, rod, and gland assembly.
  • Remove the lock nut and remove the piston from the connecting rod assembly.
  • Remove the seal, inspect for damage, and replace if necessary.

Locking Ring Threaded Head Cylinder

  • Loosen the locking ring and close the end cap.
  • Remove the piston, rod, and end cap.
  • Remove the locking nut, detach the piston from the connecting rod assembly, and slide it off the end cap.
  • Remove the seal, inspect for damage, and replace if necessary.

In most cases, the above steps are sufficient to repair metric hydraulic seals damage. While we do not perform cylinder repairs, we do provide the seals needed for replacement parts. Please contact us to inquire about our stock of hydraulic seals.
