Electric vehicle battery rubber gaskets are high-performance sealing components tailored for new energy vehicle power battery systems. They are designed specifically to solve batteries' sealing, waterproofing, dustproofing, shock absorption and insulation needs under complex working conditions.

 

Main functions

 

 

 Environmental Sealing:

 

Electric vehicle battery rubber gaskets can fill the gaps between metal parts such as battery covers and battery compartments to prevent water, dust, moisture, and road salt from entering the battery system, ensuring compliance with the protection level (IP) requirements.

 

 Thermal Insulation and Buffering:

 

Rubber gaskets (such as silicone sponges) in closed battery compartments can isolate the heat generated by the battery, reduce heat transfer, and buffer vibration and noise.

 

 Fire Resistance:

 

Some gasket materials (such as nickel-graphite-filled silicone) meet the UL 94 V-0 flame retardant standard, which can delay the spread of flames when the battery is overloaded or thermally away, providing passive fire protection.

 

 EMI Shielding:

 

Elastomer materials containing metal particles can block electromagnetic interference between the battery system and external equipment (such as charging stations and motors), ensuring the stable operation of electronic components.

 

Materials and processes

 

 

  • Substrate Selection:

 

Silicone rubber: the first choice for high-temperature resistance, suitable for sealing heating components such as BMS (battery management system).

 

Fluororubber (FKM): resistant to fuel and strong solvents, suitable for hybrid vehicles or special chemical environments.

 

EPDM rubber: resistant to ozone aging, suitable for sealing battery shells exposed outdoors.

 

  • Enhanced Process:

 

Adding carbon fiber and ceramic particles to improve compressive strength;

Surface coating with PTFE coating reduces friction coefficient and prevents installation wear.

 

Manufacturing methods

 

 

  • Molding Process: including FIP (on-site molding, suitable for automated mass production), extrusion molding (medium and low batches, can be cut and customized), and flat cutting (suitable for direct sheet processing).

 

  • Customized Design: complex shapes can be achieved through water jet cutting, bonding, or molding technology to meet the compact layout requirements of battery modules.

 

Application scenarios

 

 

1. Battery pack sealing:

Covering the battery module, cooling system, and maintenance entrance to prevent electrolyte leakage.

 

2. Adaptation to extreme environments:

For example, in the Arctic region, additional insulation gaskets can reduce heat loss in the cabin and alleviate the reduction in battery life caused by low temperatures.
